I am a licensed Architect with over 14 years experience in residential design, remodels
and additions. I specialize in waterfront homes, problem sites, remodels, and additions. Working with an existing structure and
redesigning it so it performs in an entirely new and better way is a lot of fun and I enjoy my work.
I can provide full design services from "napkin sketches" through construction administration or just draft up your
own design to make it buildable. I have worked on everything from 70 square foot garage additions to 11,000 square foot homes to
multi-family condo projects. I always charge a fixed fee so you know exactly how much you will be paying up front and I never charge
extra for my reimbursables.
I work all over the greater Puget Sound region and do not charge extra for travel time. I am also licensed in Idaho and California.
I have extensive experience working on the design of healthy and natural homes utilizing non– and low–toxic building
materials. I have worked on several homes using the "Durisol" wood-chip block wall forms that provide super insulated walls and
help mitigate moisture and sound. These blocks are also rot and insect resistant.
If you are looking for an uptight architect or designer who will spend hours talking to you about architectural theory, I am probably not
your guy. If you are looking for the cheapest price, I am probably not your guy. I will beat most licensed architect's fees for DESIGN
and DRAWINGS but if you just want cheap drawings you should probably contact someone else. If you are seeking someone
who will give you a great design that will allow you to maximize the use of your site and home, then I can help. I tend to be blunt in my feedback
and advice because I don't believe in telling people what they want to hear just to get a job.
I also do one thing I have never heard of other architects or designers doing: I put a clause in my agreement that lets the client fire me
for any reason. If you just don't like working with me, I will not try to force you to finish the project because of a contract. I want the
project to be enjoyable for everyone involved.
I do all of my design and drawings by hand. I have used CAD systems and just do not enjoy working on them as much as I like drawing by hand.
I always scan my drawings so my clients can have them in PDF or other formats. I can also work with other draftspeople to have the drawings
created in a CAD program for final construction drawings if required.
